Minutes for meeting 2

Posted by Louise and Stella

Friday 12 November
Present: Stella Kin, Louise Anton
Next meeting:  Wednesday 17 November

1. Presentation of research so far
Discussion on advantages and disadvantages of 3rd generation biofuels. 3rd and 4th generation biofuels might be a more productive vein of research, given that 1st generation biofuels are already established, as are their drawbacks. However research in all areas will be valuable as part of the presentation.

2. Timetable for following weeks
Revision of timetable is as follows:
Wed 17 -- research on four generations of biofuels and possible products is done
Fri 19 -- final decision on which biofuel and which products to include is made. Allocation of tasks for presentation
Wed 24 -- 1st draft of presentation notes to be completed and presented to team
Fri 26 -- organise slides
Mon 29 -- first presentation rehearsal and fine-tuning
Wed 1 -- rehearsal
Fri 3 -- final rehearsal
Mon 6 - presentation

Allocation of further tasks to be postponed until after decision has been made

3. Weblog
Team members are to post all background information on the blog in the form of summaries or links. We will attempt to keep the blog organised by segregating posts into the four generations for the moment, with addional info and discussion to be added in the comments. A fifth section has been made for general information on biofuels. However this is flexible and team members should post as they see fit. We will have additional sections once we choose a biofuel and method.

4. Other business
Discussion with Mamen Romano and Oliver Ebenoh revealed that £1M is a relatively small amount. We are just a start-up company and we are free to exploit existing companies and methods, outsourcing if necessary. We should also look at sources of subsidies, as well as determine what is so far available in Scotland as well as what would be appropriate for hat Scotland needs. They also emphasised that we are entirely free in our approach and can be original, e.g. using different generations of fuel in our proposal. Ultimately, our approach should be cost-effective, and this should be reflected in our cost analysis.
