Minutes for meeting 3

Posted by Stella

Wednesday 17 November 2010
Present: Stella Kin, Louise Anton, Bryan McCulloch, Rachel Nichol, Christopher Sanderson
Next meeting: 19 November 2010, 12:00, New King's 9

Discussion
1. Qualitative discussion of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation
It was agreed that the benefits of 3rd generation outweighed that of 1st. More research needed to be done on both 3rd and 4th generation, particularly on concrete numbers on costs and productivity to back up arguments, environmental impact, and research into genetic modification. Mamen suggested venues of genetic modification research that the team can explore.

2. Discussion of weblog
Clarification was needed on what was expected out of each team member.  Stella re-itereated that detailed summaries are not required, links to articles are acceptable but we should highlight points that would be useful for everyone to see. As the weblog forms our technical document, everyone is expected to contribute to provide evidence of a wide-range of research.

3. Discussion of deadlines from last week's minutes
Everyone is satisfied with the deadlines.

4. No other business
    Actions
    1. Allocation of tasks:
      • Stella and Chris - continue with 4th generation research
      • Louise - environmental impact of 3rd gen
      • Bryan - genetic modification of algae
      • Rachel - research into concrete figures for energy densities, yields per volume, production efficiencies and process life-span
      • Research should have an emphasis on advantages/disadvantages, numbers and statistics.
     2. All team members are to post links or summaries of research on the weblog.
